Tesla FSD v14 Achieves Level 4 Autonomy in 25 US Cities
Tesla's latest Full Self-Driving software passed regulatory thresholds for Level 4 operation in 25 cities, enabling driverless rides without human monitoring.
Tesla announced that Full Self-Driving version 14 has received regulatory approval for Level 4 autonomous operation in 25 US cities, covering a combined population of over 30 million people. Level 4 means the vehicle can operate without any human driver monitoring or intervention within the designated geofenced areas.
The approval follows a 14-month supervised data collection period in which FSD v14 accumulated over 800 million miles of driving data. The NHTSA review found the system's disengagement rate and accident rate per mile below the human baseline in the certified zones, meeting the statutory threshold for Level 4 certification.
